Keeping it Reel

Columbia College Hollywood Student Film to be Featured on KCET!

KCET has provided an outlet for up-and-coming filmmakers with their flagship public television series, Fine CutFine Cutprovides the much needed opportunity for student filmmakers to have their short films get greater exposure than they would at special screenings and more obscure film festivals. The show, which is also a film competition, features a collection of short films from all types of genres, animation and documentaries.

Columbia College Hollywood student, Peter Zaragoza’s film Champagne was selected to be featured as one of the contending short films. Champagne is a period piece set in 1944 in WWII, France. Two American soldiers survive an accident and are left stranded in the countryside of Champagne, France with a German prisoner whose fate they must decide.

All short films selected will be broadcast on KCET in June as a series of one-hour episodes. All the accepted shorts are also eligible for the various competitions and awards offered. KCET members and viewers have the opportunity to vote on their favorite film and the winner will be awarded the Viewer’s Choice Award. A panel of KCET judges will determine the winner of the Emerging Filmmakers and Student Filmmakers Competitions.

The winners of these three award categories will be selected as part of The American Pavilion Emerging Filmmaker Showcase at the Cannes Film Festival, 2017.

We at Columbia College Hollywood could not be more proud of Peter and all of our student who participated in the film. It is not only a beautifully executed piece, but it is also a prime example of how all the hard work and effort that our students put into their projects pays off.
