Columbia College Hollywood is excited to announce their informative Q&A panel with Director of Student programs at the Cannes American Pavilion, Michael Bremer, in CCH’s Main Theatre on Thursday, September 29th at 7pm.
Mike began his story in Hollywood as a senior while attending UCLA’s School of Motion Pictures & Television. He started as a Casting and Production Assistant on various feature films and after his graduation, he began an Agent Trainee program. Mike later transitioned to a Director of International Sales for Lorimar and Warner Bros. His journey through entertainment has placed him as an Acquisitions Agent for foreign distributors in the Home Video Market, as well as producing and arranging the financing and distribution for two independent features, made-for-TV movies and two self-help books.
In 2007, Mike returned to Warner Bros. as an independent contractor for a small project that ultimately lasted about five years. During those years, he realized how much he missed working and attending the world’s most famous international film festival, Cannes. The Universe answered the call and Cannes was waiting with open arms as an opportunity of a lifetime arrived, giving him the chance to lead The American Pavilion’s Cannes Student Program. In 2013, Mike organized and ran the Pavilion’s most successful festival in its 25 year history by facilitating the education of 175 students and mentors through the Student Program.
For those not familiar, The American Pavilion Student Program at Cannes is a set of specialty programs designed to complement a student’s school curriculum with direct access to industry professionals, hands-on experience and networking opportunities with other like-minded film students from all over the world! Students can attend round-table discussions, meet icons of the industry and join in panel discussions that cover all aspects of the entertainment world.
Michael has attended Cannes since 1987 as a seller, buyer and independent producer. With his leadership at the American Pavilion, he has been able to expand the reach of the Student Program to international schools via an unofficial alliance with CILECT, the International Association of Film and Television Schools and is currently developing plans for an immersive film study program in Cuba and Hong Kong.
Past alumni of the AmPav program have gone on to successful careers with companies such as DreamWorks, Paramount, The Weinstein Company, The William Morris Agency, ICM, Universal and many more and have notable success stories from Morgan J. Freeman, Alexa Alemanni and Producer Ron Najor.
All CCH students are encouraged to attend, as learning about all areas of entertainment study is crucial for a student’s overall growth. Guest speaker Q&A’s are a great way for students to connect to their industry mentors. CCH focuses on industry leaders who are actively working on projects that are not only relevant to the current culture, but who have also made huge impacts in their designated fields.
