Student Life
Columbia College Hollywood has integrated the liberal arts and sciences into its degree programs with a General Education curriculum designed to be broadly comprehensive while remaining relevant to the programs of study. Students engage in a wide variety of liberal arts and sciences studies to build essential skills in critical thinking, creative problem solving, effective written and oral communication, informed decision-making, and leadership.
General Education Vision & Mission
While designing the current General Education curriculum, the academic team and faculty were
guided first and foremost by the college’s mission statement. The result is a General Education curriculum that meets the college’s high standards of academic quality and integrity and provides students with a foundation of knowledge, skills, habits, and values relevant to both college studies and professional and personal pursuits upon graduation. The goal is to strike a balance between providing students with a truly general education in core competencies with the value-added benefit of discipline-relevant coursework and learning opportunities.
General Education Learning Outcomes
The five General Education Learning Outcomes below outline the essential principles guiding the General Education curriculum design. Each learning outcome corresponds to one of the five core competency areas articulated by the WSCUC: written communication, oral communication, information literacy, quantitative reasoning, and critical thinking.
Upon successfully completing the General Education requirements, students will be able to:
GELO1. Compose written communications in English with precise command of usage, organization, and expressive form.
GELO2. Discuss ideas with clarity and composure in oral communication settings.
GELO3. Execute research plans, from the initial identification of information needs through to the evaluation and utilization of findings.
GELO4. Utilize quantitative information with understanding of its applicability in real-world settings.
GELO5. Formulate conclusions/solutions as the result of a creative, critical thinking process.

At CCH, we believe it is important to take a stand by demonstrating our willingness to promote and inspire systemic change. We must speak honestly and truthfully to the ugliness of racism that permeates throughout our society today. It may be an uncomfortable conversation for some, but it is an all-too familiar reality for anyone living in this country with black or brown skin. Hiding from it, ignoring it, or being silent about it will not make it go away.
